Wellington’s Senior School comprises of students in Years 11 and 12. The College provides a wide-ranging and comprehensive program for students who wish to progress to tertiary studies (either at university or TAFE), or commence full-time employment. With a wide range of VCE subjects on offer, the College strives to create an individualised, holistic Senior School program for our Senior students. This is done in conjunction with the Senior School Coordinators, Student Pathways team, the College Wellbeing team and classroom teachers.

Senior students have access to a modern, purpose-built learning area within the College which provides a unique home for senior students at Wellington. This precinct contains study spaces, recreational spaces, including kitchen facilities, allowing students to connect and collaborate in pursuit of achieving their best. Senior School has a unique culture with a range of traditions and rites-of-passage honouring the work of our students and recognising the College’s history in the community which pays tribute to the skills and experiences of our diverse student population.

The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is the qualification in Victoria for direct entry into university courses throughout Australia, and provides the choice of mainstream VCE (geared towards university study) and the Vocational Major (VM).
VCE VM is the ideal pathway for students to undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship, or entry into the workforce, upon completing their secondary schooling. The VCE VM program offered at Wellington Secondary College includes four compulsory subjects:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Work Related Skills (WRS)
  • Personal Development Skills (PDS)
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET)

For more information on VCE VM please contact Senior School.

Students can study either VCE or VCE VM. Within the VCE, students may also study a VET course which offers the opportunity to earn Certificate III or IV qualifications while still enrolled in secondary school. Wellington Secondary College provides access to a range of VET courses which can be taken external to the College (at local TAFE institutes or other Secondary Colleges) . These include, but are not limited to:

  • Music
  • Automotive Technology
  • Fitness
  • Community Recreation
  • Outdoor Recreation
  • Hairdressing
  • Information Technology
  • Multimedia
  • Catering Operations
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Beauty Therapy
  • Allied Health Assistance
  • Event Management
  • Community Services

For further information about VET courses please contact the Director of Student Pathways.

Wellington Secondary College ensures that all eligible Year 12 students attain their VCE or VCE VM.
After successful completion of their senior studies, every graduating student is followed up by the Pathways Team.
